Jamie Carragher claims Adrian can have a big attacking impact for Liverpool as they look to overcome Atletico Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday.

Diego Simeone’s side have a 1-0 advantage ahead of the second leg after Saul Niguez’s early strike at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The defeat in Madrid sparked a dip in form for Liverpool domestically as they suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season at the hands of Watford, before crashing out of the FA Cup to Chelsea last week.

OPINION: Anfield magic alone will not leave Atletico spellbound

Adrian will line up in goal for the Reds with Alisson sidelined through injury.

And Carragher, who won the Champions League with the Reds in 2005, insists his old side must “take risks” on Wednesday, and claims Adrian can play a big part in their success.

“You’ve got to move the ball fast in a game like this,” Carragher told The Athletic via Goal.

“When you get the opportunity to really attack Atletico you’ve got to go for it and that means taking risks.

“You might lose the ball more than normal in trying to force it but it’s about reacting to situations and not allowing them to get organised with 11 men behind the ball.

“Atletico won’t commit many players forward but on the rare occasions they do have two or three caught upfield, you need to turn defence into attack quickly.

“As soon as the goalkeeper catches it, he needs to be looking to get Liverpool flying at them.”
